In January, a friend asked if I wanted to go to some viking event in the province of Limburg, Belgium. I’m always in for something new and different, so I said “sure, why not!” And so we went. It was amazing; the reenactment of the battles, the costumes, the market, everything was fantastic.
They came for all over Europe, these vikings. Belgian, French, Scandinavian, … 500 of them!
Tongeren is known as the oldest town of Belgium, and has a history since the 15th century BC. Before the Roman invasions, Belgic tribes inhabited Tongeren. The place was also inhabited by Ambiorix, prince of the Eburons, who fought the Roman invaders. Once a Roman city, it was inhabited by the Tungri, hence also its name.
