Ukiha: white walls and paper lanterns

After getting a little lost in Ukiha, we found our way to the white walls and were delighted to see these really cute red-and-white papers lanterns. When I was in Ukiha two years ago, I never went to this old area, so I was pleasantly surprised by this picturesque view! Because the houses are beautifully preserved and still in use, the area has a great authentic feel to it.

I would totally recommend going to Ukiha if you’re ever in Fukuoka. It’s only about an hour by local train, so a perfect day trip from there! Make sure to visit Qui Tico Co, which used to be just a cafe with bits of odds and ends but has now merged with the tourist centre. We had a yummy lunch there as well!
